After a few rounds of interviews and professional evaluations, the Fund’s founding partners ERSTE Foundation, Robert Bosch Foundation and King Baudouin Foundation in close cooperation with the Network of European Foundations (NEF) agreed and came to a joint decision about the future leader of the Fund.

In this change in leadership, European Fund for the Balkans, Aleksandra Tomanić who was the Executive Director of the EFB in the past six years and has managed to successfully adapt its strategy to reflect the evolving realities of the region, will now be succeeded by Veton Zekolli, who will take up his new role starting from 8 September 2025.

Veton brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to democratic development, dialogue and regional cooperation, which were recognised as key traits for continuing the EFB strategic steering in the ever-changing regional context. Being actively engaged in the civil society sector since the beginning of his career, Veton combines deep regional knowledge with a passion for fostering dialogue and collaboration.

Currently, he serves as Program Manager at the Westminster Foundation for Democracy. Prior to this, he worked at the Nansen Dialogue Centre Skopje, spearheading initiatives focused on social cohesion across the Western Balkans.
