The booklet “Being a woman in the Balkans” is a final output of the project: "Women For Economy" and it is a collection of ten individual opinions and experiences of the youth from the Western Balkans on the barriers that women face to access employment and advance in their carriers. The conference "Women Perspectives in the Labor Market in the Balkans" will be held on March 1st, 2013 in Pristhina at hotel Sirius premises. The start of the conference is scheduled for 11 am.
The project was implemented by a group of participants of the Leadership Development Program 2012-2013, coming from five Western Balkans states: Tamara Dimitrijevska (Macedonia), Ida Dojčinović (Croatia), Emir Kalac (Montenegro), Fjolla Kondirolli (Kosovo), Evica Kuc (Serbia) and Krenar Shala (Kosovo) who published a call for essay submission in each of the above mentioned countries and invited students, recent graduates, employed and unemployed people, young professionals to share their thoughts on the barriers that women face in the labour market. The ten best essays are collected and published in a booklet which will be presented at the conference
Besides promoting the booklet, the conference will stir a debate on the social, economic and legal barriers that women from the Balkan countries face on the labour market. Welcome speech and brief introduction will be given by Mr. Krenar Shala, LDP Participant and Ms. Rana Birden, Transfuse Association. Ten minute presentations on the gender equality from different perspectives will be delivered by Ms. Nita Luci (Lecturer, University of Prishtina, Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology) Mr. Shemsedin Aliu (Task Manager, EU Office in Kosovo), Ms. Shpresa Zariqi (Head of Cooperation Division - Gender Equality Agency, Office of the Prime Minister) and Ms. Venera Demukaj, Lecturer ( American University in Kosovo, Department of Economics).
The objective of the conference is to stir debate on the current issues and problems which obstruct women to effectively participate in the labour market without prejudices and discrimination against them.
